My first gingerbread house! I learned tons and am totally looking forward to making my next house. I think this one turned out spooktacular! (Designer: Bobbie Felix)

You'll find marshmallow ghosts, candy pumpkins and candy corn, sugar tombstones, sprinkle leaves, sugar bats, candy bones and black licorice for the decorations and trims. The side walk is made with poppy seeds. I made my sand from brown sugar and my black dirt is made from chocolate cookie. The porch pillars are made from pretzel sticks. The house, tree, and signs are made out of gingerbread. I used gum glue to fix a few boo boos and to make the seeds stick. Everything else is "glued" with royal icing. Everything on the board is edible with the exception of the hand bursting from the grave. I looked at hundreds of other houses and then just did what made me feel good.

I made 5 different varieties of theses houses on my 2 week vacation and all collapsed except 1 because of the rain. It did not rain all year until I hot ready to make them, Although they were delicious to eat they would have been better if they had hardened up a bit! I used my secret recipe and my famous frosting that taste like Oreo cream filling. I spent most of the time filing down the edges with a long cheese grater hoping the pieces wouldn't break. I also put orange lights and ghosts on the inside and the effect was awesome, but the camera wouldn't take shots without flashing.

2013 Best Haunted Halloween Theme - Stephanie Pearson

 Three friends, Megan, Stephanie and Erin, get together to create holiday gingerbread scenes. Inspired by our love of Disney's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, we came up with this idea last year. Molds were created (for the first time for us) to shape the Headless Horseman and his steed. The plain bridge was conceptualized to be a backdrop to the cemetery, river, and other landscape of Sleepy Hollow. We used edible clay, colored icing, gel food color painted on pumpkins, cookies for the headstones, and spaghetti for the cemetery fence. The hills are chocolate Rice Krispy treats covered with sparse tufts of icing grass.

The edible black glitter on the roof didn't show up too well in the photo. Most of the candy in the photo is pretty self explanatory - but the bone fence around the house is made with white candy sticks and dots of royal icing.
